Over the last 40 years, there are few names more recognizable to those who've participated in minor hockey in Regina than Fred McBeth's. Fred's aka: Fast One's greatest contribution to our community was his involvement in hockey, especially as a coach for over 30 years. Fred also served as a board member of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and on the organizing committee for the World Junior Hockey tournament in Regina, as well as the chair of the Regina Pats Education Fund. Stretching over 20 years, he built it into the largest U18 tournament in Canada - regularly hosting the top U18 teams from across Canada and the USA. He also organized various iterations of league all star games and skills competitions.

For some reason, the southeast region has been without a boys midget AAA hockey team. The league has teams throughout the province, but its only presence in the southeast is at Notre Dame, which is a prep school team. Now that the Saskatchewan Hockey Association is taking another look at the setup of AAA hockey in this province, the southeast is finally getting a long look. A committee of local hockey enthusiasts has prepared a very detailed bid to get midget AAA hockey in Estevan. Their effort is commendable and we certainly hope they will be rewarded. This would be a big win for Estevan.

The following year 2nd year we lost Wainwright and added three teams from the south; Lethbridge Eagles, Calgary Titans, and Cochrane Hurricanes. We have evolved over the years and have gone up to 10 teams, we have settled in with 9 teams currently and have a north and a south division. We have a 28 game regular season schedule with a home and away game vs the opposite division. This league is set up for graduating midget AAA, elite, A, ACAC, and CIS girls that wish to continue to play competitive hockey and still allow for a somewhat balanced life with full-time post-secondary students and full-time jobs. We have kept Junior Female Hockey alive in the west with the support of Winnipeg where they have the only other Junior League out west.
